This trip is considered a moderately difficult. You will be hiking on-trail and occasionally off-piste (off trail) over steep, hilly, and uneven terrain, often covering more than 8 to 10 miles in a day with up to 4,000 feet of elevation gain/loss. Day 7 is our longest day, covering a distance of 14 miles with an elevation gain of 2,491feet, and an elevation loss of 3,680 feet. See our Hiking Itinerary for complete details.

We strongly recommend that participants have a good level of fitness and are well prepared. See our Gear & Packing recommendations for more info.

It is each guest's responsibility to meet in Chamonix on Day 1 of our trip (see Travel & Logistics for details).

On our last day, Modern Adventure will arrange a complimentary transfer to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) in Nice, France. Your flight should depart from NCE at 1pm or later. If you choose to extend your vacation plans previous to, or after, the Modern Adventure portion of your trip, the transfers and logistics for this travel is at your own expense. Our concierge team is happy to make recommendations when possible.

We'll spend most of our days hiking in the French Alps. We'll use a private passenger van or minibus for ground transportation from our mountain inns to/from the day's trailhead. We'll carry day packs when we hike, while our luggage will be transferred by vehicle between our accommodations.

Prices are based on double occupancy. If you selected "Single - Willing to Share", Modern Adventure will pair you up with a roommate of the same gender to share a tent & lodge accommodations with.

If you are a solo traveler and want to have your own accommodations, a $1,200 supplement will apply at checkout; these spots are very limited due to the type of accommodations we're staying in, and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

You may cancel on or before May 8, 2021 and receive a full refund minus a $500 per-person service fee. If you cancel on or after May 9, 2021 there is a 50% cancellation fee. On or after July 7, 2021 there is a 100% cancellation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance as we are not able to make exceptions to this policy in cases family/medical emergency or cases of the trip being canceled (see our Terms and Conditions for full details).

While we do make an effort to accommodate special dietary requirements, our hiking adventures may hold particular difficulties when attempting to accommodate restrictions or requirements. We ask that you inform us of any dietary needs on your traveler information form (you will receive this form prior to travel) so we can make our partners in France aware of allergies and other requirements, and will reach out if we run into any roadblocks. If you have any significant concerns, please reach out to discuss possible difficulties with our concierge team.

We make safety a priority on all our adventures. Since this adventure takes place in some remote locations, it can be difficult and expensive to plan medical evacuations. It is each guest’s responsibility to be covered by emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance, or to be prepared to cover the cost yourself, for expenses related to an emergency medical evacuation and repatriation.

Global Rescue provides evacuation and field-rescue services and is a good option to consider.

We limit the group to no more than 13 fellow adventurers and your Modern Adventure team. Our experiences are fun and inclusive and you can expect to be joined by a diverse group in terms of age, background and interests – including solo travelers, couples and friends traveling together. This adventure is recommended for travelers aged 18 and above who are in good health and have previous experience with hiking.
